Getting Started

Welcome to OpsFusion! This guide will walk you through the essential steps to set up your on-call alerting system, from account creation to sending your first alert.

OpsFusion helps teams manage on-call schedules and receive alerts efficiently. Follow these steps in order to get your team up and running quickly.

Follow these steps to fully configure OpsFusion:

  • Sign up with your work email or Google account
  • Set a secure password (8+ characters with uppercase, lowercase, number, special character)
  • Verify your email address (email sign-up only)
  • Create a new account or accept an invitation

Time: 5 minutes

  • Add colleagues who will participate in on-call rotations
  • Assign roles: Account Owner, Account Admin, Team Admin, or Standard User
  • Manage pending invitations and resend if needed
  • Wait for users to accept invitations

Time: 5 minutes (plus wait time for acceptances)

  • Organize users by service, department, or region
  • Add team members from your account
  • Create additional teams as needed

Time: 3 minutes per team

  • Choose rotation type: Daily, Weekly, or Hourly
  • Configure rotation order and team member sequence
  • Define rotation pattern and active periods
  • Add escalation policies for unacknowledged alerts
  • Set up overrides for vacations or shift swaps

Time: 10-15 minutes per schedule

  • Verify your phone number for SMS and phone call notifications
  • Configure notification order and timing
  • Test all notification methods
  • Ensure reliable alert delivery

Time: 5-10 minutes

  • Generate API keys for authenticating requests to OpsFusion
  • Assign roles to control key permissions
  • Copy and store keys securely (one-time display only!)
  • Name keys descriptively to identify their purpose

Time: 3 minutes

  • Choose Standard or Alertmanager format
  • Send a test alert via API
  • Verify the on-call person receives notifications
  • Integrate with your monitoring tools

Time: 5 minutes for test, varies for integration

Before you begin, gather:

  • Email addresses - Yours and your team members’
  • Team structure - How you want to organize users (by service, function, or time zone)
  • Rotation requirements - Coverage hours, rotation frequency, team size
  • Monitoring tools - What systems will send alerts to OpsFusion

Once configured, OpsFusion will:

  • Rotate on-call assignments automatically based on your schedules
  • Route alerts to the current on-call person when received via API
  • Send notifications via email, SMS, and voice calls
  • Track alert history for all teams
  • Escalate unacknowledged alerts based on your escalation policies
